Kehila is is the local Jewish communal structure which was used in Central and Eastern Europe. Jewishgen.org just published my Kehilalinks page for Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Pine Bluff was Frances Jean Bloom, my mother’s, birthpace (and her father and grandfather as well). There is still a small elderly, Jewish community there which observes Friday night Shabbat services bi-monthly. A retired rabbi visits from Little Rock to lead the worship.
In late 2012, my Kehilalinks page was published for Roman, Romania, the birthplace of my grandfather Simon Ghertner. The Jewishgen.org website is dedicated to genealogical research; it hosts databases of Family trees, towns, JOWBR burial registry, Yizkor (Memorial) books, Kehilalinks (for towns that have/had Jewish communities. Many of the Kehilalinks towns are/were in Europe; here’s the Worldwide menu page.
Here are links to Yizkor book translations for Iaşi, Romania and Roman, Romania.
